New Moon Leo – July and August 2019 – Ego Disruptor

New Moon Leo

The Leo New Moon is going to be one of those strange ones, for many reasons. It’s the first New Moon after the previous Solar Eclipse in July, and this one spans the line between months depending on which timezone you find yourself in. It’s going to be a disruptive and strange cycle for other reasons as well, one of which is Mercury station direct, which occurs less than an hour after the New Moon peaks.

The New Moon takes place at 08 Leo 36’57” on July 31, 8:55PM PDT (August 1st, 3:11:55 AM UTC, hence the timezone mention in the opening paragraph). This lunar cycle will be dealing with our egos and senses of self, and of course our desire to have fun and our legacies (such as children, since Leo is the 5th sign of the zodiac and dealing with 5th house matters). The New Moon is, of course, Sun conjunct Moon and the Sun is in it’s home sign as well, so it’s quite a potent lunation right now too. What we set in motion and the intentions we set during this New Moon will definitely affect how we see ourselves for awhile this time around.

Most direct aspects to the New Moon first, we have New Moon conjunct Venus, which can be a good thing. Money, what we find valuable, where we find comfort, who we prefer to hang out with, those will definitely be coming to the forefront during this lunar cycle. We’ll find this theme disrupted, however, as we have New Moon and Venus both square Uranus in Taurus, in its fall position. Uranus doesn’t like being in Taurus so much, and as Taurus is the 2nd house of the zodiac, we’re going to be facing some themes of disruption in money and possessions, and I’d say this also affects relationships with others as well. This isn’t the best time to overspend or go for brass rings we really shouldn’t be reaching for this cycle. However, some of us (myself included) are in positions right now where we don’t have much of a choice except to reach for a ring somewhere! In this instance, be aware of sudden changes, but go for what you’ve got to go for, especially if the alternative to not going for it is guaranteed failure.

New Moon trine Chiron retrograde in Aries can help us find the strength needed to heal some inner wounds that have been vexing us, which may help us move forward from some past hurts this lunar cycle. Chiron may be more active in Aries when it comes to our own selves, what drives us, as Aries is the first sign of the zodiac. In some instances, this could also help us avoid further wounding if we know where to look and where to step.

Mercury in Cancer stations direct a little more than 45 minutes after the New Moon goes exact. This is going to add a bit of a motionless feel for this lunar cycle, and things we expect to pick up and go just won’t be doing that right away. On top of that, Mercury stationed is opposing Pluto retrograde in Capricorn and, well, don’t expect to see sudden improvements right away. We also have Mercury sitting on fixed star Pollux, and according to this page, this has the side effect of:

Unbalanced mind, unpopular and peculiar occupation, trouble with father through relatives or enemies, domestic disharmony, anxiety, loss through land, property and mines.

Constellations of Words – Pollux

Going along with that Venus square Uranus thing, this could lead to some disruption in the markets and in investments. This may not be the best time to jump on that hot stock.

Mars in Leo trine Jupiter retrograde in Sagittarius is a good sign for us, though, in that we can mitigate some of the worst of the losses, and we can make use of some optimism and fiery energies of both Leo and Sagittarius to advance some objectives of our own. Jupiter in its home sign of Sagittarius also boosts its power, so do be on the lookout for some higher inspiration to put into action. Coursework and foreign travel should also go a bit more smoothly at this time, or you could make a new friend from a place far away.

Saturn retrograde conjunct the South Node in Capricorn, although nearly two degrees in orb, is a tricky one. There’s going to still be that faint restrictive black hole feel that’s going to draw some of us back towards the mundane and the taskmaster’s domain. We want to go forwards, we want to get our shit done, and Saturn is still here holding the chains and saying “nope, you still have more not-so-fun stuff you have to take care of.” This could have the side effect of holding us into more stable orbits too, rather than letting us propel forward towards our dreams. We may need to shore up some foundations before we can kick off into higher gear.

Looking more into the asteroids, New Moon semisquare 11911 Angel in Virgo warns us to be aware of those who may not have our best interests at heart. Not saying you’ll run into some fallen angels, but do be wary of those who seem to be too good to be true this cycle.

New Moon sextile 6583 Destinn, 14825 Hypnos, 1488 Aura, and 763 Cupido in Libra may bring to us some destined events that should move us closer to where we ought to be. On the other hand, it could also be what breaks us away from some events and players that we need to break away from. This cycle could be the one that facades fall away if we can identify them. We should also keep in mind any facades we’ve put up for ourselves could just as easily be broken by others. On the other hand, this could be a fun time for a summer masquerade party.

New Moon sextile 9770 Discovery and 55 Pandora in Gemini can also represent the uncovering of some uncomfortable truths during this lunar cycle, but we may be better able to handle them given the sextile being a softer aspect than that of a square or semisquare. Do keep your eyes open and see if you can find the hope that stayed behind in Pandora’s box.

New Moon semisextile 7328 Casanova and 390 Alma in Virgo could represent a lunar cycle where a potential love interest may charm their way into your good graces as well. This could possibly be the start of something longer term given that Alma seems to be more of a soulful or spiritual asteroid than it is a romantic one.

New Moon semisextile 1981 Midas and 545 Messalina in Cancer warns us to be wary of those who would bribe us to get into our pants this cycle. Given the sextile between Casanova and Messalina (named for a promiscuous Roman queen, empress, or noble), this could be a time we get sweet-talked into a fling. If that’s exactly what you’re after, then fine, just make sure you know what you’re getting into.

So this lunar cycle isn’t going to be a very fast-acting one from the looks of things, but some good things could develop if we keep our eyes on the prize. It’ll take a lot more hard work and perseverance to build what we want in our lives until the next lunar cycle begins, but it certainly is not impossible. Mercury being motionless during the New Moon definitely adds to the gravity of the situation, and we may feel like we’re stuck in mud. But this will pass, and we can begin moving forward. And of course there’s the potential of maybe a summer romance that pulls us out of the rut, just make sure we know what we’re getting into! I’ll cover Mercury Direct more in another article here a little bit later.
