New Moon Leo – August 2021 – Lion’s Heart

New Moon Leo

This is a rather intense New Moon period to kick off a lunar cycle. As one of the buzz phrases going around seems to be “Lion’s Gate Portal”, this one seems to have much more intense feeling. Others have written about the 8/8 period and its significance, and I am more focused on the astrology side of this. Still, don’t discount it, as we are undoubtedly feeling the drive to start things anew in our lives, and what better time than a New Moon?

This New Moon’s Basics

This New Moon takes place at 16 Leo 14’09” on August 8th, 2021 06:50:06 PDT (13:50:06 UTC). This lunar cycle takes place in the sign of Leo, so matters involving our creative pursuits, our hobbies, recreation, short-term relationships and flings, and even children will be at the heart of matters now. Let’s not forget the main aspect of Sun conjunct Moon notating new beginnings and fresh starts, so for this period we’ll be thinking about how we can get our loftier goals and creative projects off the ground. Definitely set some good intentions and some good vibes for those as this New Moon gets under way!

Other Aspects to the New Moon

Just one aspect to the New Moon itself to speak of, and that would be New Moon Leo square Uranus in Taurus. Uranus is slowing down as we’re approaching its retrograde season as well, so things could be feeling even more fixed than usual. Uranus is the planet of rebellion, sudden changes, and I’d argue surprises as well, and it’s in a weaker position in Taurus (a sign of stability, comfort, and steady resources), so we may want to be changing things up a bit but facing a harder time doing so. The more things change, the more they stay the same. There’s also the simultaneous feel where we want some things to stay as they are, but the things we don’t want to shift under our feet do wind up shifting, so there’s some uncertainty here. It’s kind of multi-faceted.

Other Noteworthy Aspects During the New Moon

One of the big aspect patterns going on during the New Moon is a Yod being formed to point at Mercury in Leo from Neptune retrograde in Pisces and Pluto retrograde in Capricorn. Neptune sextile Pluto does add the feel of needing to consult with our deeper subconscious and higher selves to determine the best way to shift things to a better path, something that will help us build for the future. Both of these planets quincunx Mercury denotes that we are getting a feel what to change to move forward, but we are struggling with how to explain or express this to the world at large. We are desiring more freedom, yet we’re feeling like there’s something in the way of this, like we’ll be misunderstood, or that we just may not be changing the right things here. It’s certainly a time where what we write and how we come across to others can be misunderstood to those who aren’t reading between our lines. That said, it’s definitely a time where we want to be heard. But is the message coming from a good place, or are we speaking our fears and uncertainties? Search within, and make sure you’re not just being reactionary right now, as things said now will be difficult to take back later.

Venus in Virgo trine Pluto retrograde in Capricorn and opposing Neptune retrograde in Pisces, this is generally a good time to put in the hard, solid work for what we are creating that will help change our lives. Venus in Virgo is more detail-oriented and can represent where we put in the solid work to get things created, but there’s a lot of work and details to work out. It’s not as free-flowing as, say, Venus in Libra or Leo. The trine to Pluto lends itself to a better chance of coming out with groundbreaking new works, and can even point to some fundamental shifts in our relationships as well. That opposition of Venus to Neptune, though, that is where some uncertainties can come in, but if we balance the give-and-take of our subconscious and intuitive vibes, we can produce some awesome art and music now, among other things. Some deeper meditation and other spiritual practices can also help us to center ourselves and shed some insights into our hobbies and projects now too.

With Mars also now in Virgo, and it squaring the North Node in Gemini, this denotes a lunar cycle where we’ll have more energy to deal with the analytical and brain-crunching work we need to do to get ahead. We may have been putting off some tasks as far as organizing things in our lives, and this would be a good month to catch up on that. We’ll need to figure out some good, methodical ways to get these more cerebral tasks done. Saturn retrograde in Aquarius trining the North Node also plays into this, and once we get past some of the more helter-skelter energies from Mars squaring the Nodes, we may be able to find that we can focus better on putting our noses to the grindstone and getting these duties done. There’s a good chance we may even find a way to streamline or innovate a better way to make these tasks go faster, or at the very least they won’t seem quite as tedious as they normally could be, provided we keep our frustrations and impatience in check.

To Sum it All Up

There isn’t as much to add about this lunar cycle, really. It’s a solid time to put our plans in motion to propel us to a better future for ourselves, and it will take a fair amount of discipline and hard work on our part, but it’s nothing most of us can’t handle. I’d even say some of us may get some welcome help during this cycle which will help things along, and it’s a good time to be grateful for that if need be. Honestly, let’s be grateful for the positives we do have in our lives right now, and I’d say that should pay dividends in receiving further blessings throughout this lunar cycle.

Let’s not forget that the Full Moon for this cycle will be the second Full Moon of Aquarius for this year, so there’s definitely some upstart Aquarian vibes that will be in play in a couple of weeks from this New Moon. Don’t forget the inner shadow work that we’ve all got to do. Now’s a good time to get started on the next phase of this process. May what no longer serves us be cast away, and may that which will greatly improve our lives flow in with abundance.

That’s pretty much it. Let’s make this a good cycle.
