I’m a little late with this one, but we cannot ignore what this lunar cycle has in store. Especially since this is the opening to Eclipse Season coming in September 2025.
Expect major changes and shifts.
The New Moon Itself
New Moon Virgo entered exact conjunction at 00 Vir 23’00” on August 22nd, 11:06 PM PDT / August 23rd, 2025 at 6:06 AM UTC.
This New Moon at the very start of Virgo also dictates that the following New Moon, a Solar Eclipse at that, also tells us that this is one of two lunar cycles with Virgo influence. For this one, we’re fully in the first decan of Virgo, ruled by Mercury which exits the post-retrograde shadow zone a couple days later.
Matters of routine, service, day-to-day obligations like jobs, and our health will be in focus for not just this lunar cycle, but the next several months once the Solar Eclipse in September takes hold.
Sun conjunct Moon, the hallmark of any New Moon, denotes new beginnings, getting new projects off of the ground, and beginning new journeys in many ways. This would be an ideal time to kick off that new health regimen, or renew a commitment to one if you need to retool an existing routine, in my opinion. At least, that’s what I’m doing myself, attempting to get some earlier wake-up times and morning exercises started as an example.
On another personal note, this New Moon is also less than 24 hours from my precessed solar return taking effect. A 12th house profection year at that. I’m not as well-versed in profections, however, so it’s something you’ll need to look up from other astrologers as of the time of this writing.
Other Aspects to the New Moon
Kingmaker, or Kingslayer?
New Moon Virgo conjunct fixed star Regulus brings all sorts of new beginnings and potential closings of cycles where power and prestige are concerned. While there can be benefits and new positions of power granted here, there’s also the potential for downfall.
Uranus in Gemini squares this New Moon, as well as Sedna. That’s a major impact alone. Uranus is rebellion, surprises, sudden shifts and changes. With the square aspect, that’s a bit of a struggle and some hardships coming up. And Sedna’s themes involve betrayal by patriarchy and from male figures in some people’s lives.
Perhaps there’s a major power shift coming up. With the Virgoan health influence, there’s the potential for a changing of the guard due to health. Could be political leaders, business leaders, your boss at work, or maybe even just getting a checkup or some dental work done. (Yes, I had that going on too. Nothing major, thankfully).
New Moon Virgo square 2031 BAM in Sagittarius also bumps things up a notch. Expect explosive insights and revelations. This may also indicate an increase of explosive conflict between nations.
There’s also New Moon Virgo opposite 6583 Destinn retrograde in Aquarius. For this lunar cycle going into Eclipse Season, you need to take charge of your own destiny in whatever way makes sense. But also be mindful of the explosive and rapidly changing events going on around us.
The big thing, though, is New Moon Virgo apexing a yod from Pluto retrograde in Aquarius, and form Saturn retrograde and Neptune retrograde in Aries. So the destroyer and renewer is working in tandem with the disciplinarian taskmaster and the greater mystic, and all of that energy is drawn inwards with all of those outer planets travelling in reverse. You really need to take a look at what is not working, and you need to make some well-planned changes as best as you can. Now.
Or those changes are going to be done for you, by people you don’t want to decide such changes. We may not even have a choice in the matter with Destinn pulling the bowstring. So perhaps it’s more about choosing how we’ll respond to the changes to come.
Fortunately, New Moon Virgo sextiles 128 Nemesis. Do keep that in mind. Some kind of retribution may come for those who need it. For others, there will be sidestepping retribution and some “stays of execution,” maybe literally.
Other Notable Aspects During the New Moon
Mercury’s Still Shadowing
Mercury is still in its post-retrograde shadow as of the New Moon in Virgo. So we’re not quite out of the woods when it comes to plans going to, well, plan. Some changes will need to be made and some outings or appointments moved or cancelled even after it exits its post-retrograde zone, at least until the Solar Eclipse in September changing the mood a little.
Say What You Mean
Mercury in Leo sextile Mars in Libra will allow us to be a little more decisive in some decision-making, though not as assertively as we may want due to Mars being in detriment. Still, there can be an appearance at the very least of diplomacy and working things out with others.
Falling Headfirst
Venus is involved with a Grand Cross of sorts, with the primary, wide opposition of Pluto retrograde as the first order of business. Venus in Cancer strikes me as wanting to beautify or improve the home and private environment, and build upon it. Pluto retrograde in Aquarius, however, indicates disruption and throwing off expectations. This could be like an unruly child not making their room as one example. This can also manifest with technology going berserk, like AI replacing workers and making paying rent a little more dicey.
This can also manifest as unstable or rebellious events or people disrupting your home and family peace. Case in point: You may have a home business, but the Trump Tariffs are not exactly helping some people lower any costs, especially if you’re importing from high-tariff targets like China.
Venus continues the Grand Cross effect with its square to Chiron retrograde in Aries, which itself is with 5325 Silver retrograde, 114 Kassandra retrograde, Eris retrograde, and 4580 Child retrograde. Yes, that’s a lot of retrograde smaller bodies.
Chiron’s the wounded healer, but when retrograde, there’s some inward draw where you could heal yourself (particularly in Aries), or hurt yourself some more (especially in Aries). These home and technological / societal disruptions can be quite vexing for trying to get ahead or stabilize your home and personal life.
Chiron retrograde with the other asteroids, such as Silver retrograde, further compounds the issues with trying to get ahead moneywise to do what you want to do. You may have surprise bills that prevent you from taking that much-needed vacation or day spa trip, or taking the kids to the water park before school opens again.
Kassandra retrograde with Chiron here forces us to consider where we are not being heard. We also need to make sure we’re not harming ourselves by not heeding critical information that we just might want to hear. Or, we might be hurt more by that needed information that we could ignore not making it to us in the first place, such as if good health advice stops being provided by “leaders”. This could also affect children’s health with the conjunction to asteroid Child here.
Finally, Eris is here as well, and Eris moves slowly. Discord, chaos, and we need to make sure we’re doing what we can to withstand that chaos.
Venus square Nemesis in Libra, which itself opposes Chiron and the others, also points to some potential financial, relational, and stability issues. Perhaps someone’s been taking too much (or someone’s been too freely giving and it’s now an issue)? Overhelping is a thing, and if that’s you, check on your motives. Conversely, you could be helping just fine, but then not able to when a sudden obligation or a bill you forgot about rears its ugly head.
Venus trine Saturn retrograde and Neptune retrograde does allow for some righting of the ship and seeing where you can better allocate your resources for the home. Maybe something like putting off a purchase for a little bit so you can prioritize paying off some credit card interest, and then making that purchase later when you’re better able to absorb the cost.
Populist Gaslighting
Mars in Libra square Pholus retrograde in Capricorn urges us to take a good, sober look at our relationships. In particular, our relationships with authority figures and governing institutions. The propaganda is flying on all sides, of course, and some of it is so obvious…
…But… Mars square 14827 Hypnos in Cancer doesn’t help. With both of these squares, there can be some breakdown of mass hypnosis, while there can be doubling-down of the same elsewhere. More polarization.
Mars conjunct 11911 Angel and 258 Tyche, though, is interesting. Perhaps a little active partnership with others in our orbit can bring us closer to divinity through works? Pairing up with reliable partners, going out, making a difference and lifting people up? That’s noble. Whether the motives themselves are noble or not, or part of the Hypnos/Pholus whispering campaigns, I suppose some good can come of this.
Pallas retrograde in Aquarius trine Mars in Libra can also be helpful in us considering unconventional wisdom for getting through some problems and decision-making. Sometimes you’ve got to trust yourself and not the noise from outside.
A Mixed Bag of Hope?
Jupiter in Cancer makes a wide conjunction to Sirius, bringing with this combination a limited possibility of business expansion for some. I’m sure customs brokers will be making out. This may also be potentially beneficial for those in a theological bent.
875 Nymphe conjunct Jupiter, you would think this would expand opportunities for romps in the hay or wherever. That’s entirely possible, but there’s some devil in the details with such opportunities. Jupiter opposite 896 Sphinx could make such lustful hopes more of a labyrinth of riddles and crossed signals than you’re expecting.
There’s also Jupiter squaring Ceres retrograde in Aries tightly. You could be hopeful about moving into a new place, you could be wanting to do your own thing in spite of your family or home situation, and it could backfire on ya. Or perhaps some of us are considering pulling up stakes.
Some of us may be forced to move, with Jupiter in Cancer squaring 85047 Krakatau, 4464 Vulcano, and 10961 Buysballot in Libra. And yes, those oppose Ceres retrograde. Much potential for natural disasters forcing relocations as wildfire season is still going on in places, to say nothing of the increased seismic activity with 6.0+ magnitude earthquakes in places (if my QuakeFeed app notifications are any indication). There’s also the potential for political violence and a powder keg building up that way, which will undoubtedly lead to other forced relocations (Gaza being a prime example).
However, there is a calculated point Water Grand Trine between Jupiter in Cancer, Black Moon Lilith in Scorpio, and the North Node in Pisces. There is much moving beneath the waves and beneath the surface, and a lot of it is going to stir a lot of emotions. But we have to do this to collectively evolve, it seems. So confront a lot of your inner darkness.
I know… It’s a lot to take in.
Shifting Skies
As far as Uranus in Gemini is concerned, it’s still part of a Minor Grand Trine with Saturn Rx (retrograde) and Neptune Rx apexing in Aries, while Pluto Rx is holding the other part of the foundation in Aquarius.
So, in a rapidly changing world where what we knew before no longer exists, we still have the opportunity to take care of things and right our ships. Figure out where your discipline is lacking, and think carefully about what’ll work for you to get your life on track. And figure out what needs to go, and what (more importantly) needs to stay to make it happen.
Do note, though, that Saturn Rx and Neptune Rx are within range of conjuncting Scheat, a particularly unfortunate star. Don’t immerse yourself too much in drink or other addictions, as those could derail whatever you’re doing. Also, don’t be reckless, as accidents are likely with that stellar conjunction. The sextiles to Uranus and Pluto, however, may smooth things over and allow a chance to escape serious harm if you’re paying attention.
Uranus conjunct Sedna and 1981 Midas Rx, this is rather tricky. Uranus is rebellion, sudden changes, surprises, and Sedna denotes some level of patriarchal betrayal. Midas retrograde here could also imply that in the realm of trying to keep things from changing and clinging on to power, one could think they’re turning things to gold when it’s really turning to shit. Be aware of what those in power are doing when they do… anything. Especially now with an increasingly chaotic world.
Uranus also trines 13897 Vesuvius and 8813 Leviathan in Libra, another interesting combination. I wouldn’t be surprised if they make an undersea discovery in a contested area with this. Maybe a resource windfall, or some archaeological or anthropological discovery comes out.
In Closing
To be blunt, there’s a lot of changes coming with this lunar cycle, and with this going into Eclipse season, this is going to color the next several months slightly.
Don’t expect things to be stable, but there are ways we can harness the chaos and maybe make some necessary changes that meet or exceed what we’re aiming to do.
All things considered, don’t sabotage yourselves, and be ready to make adjustments. Usually sound advice, but for the next few weeks and months, it is especially pertinent.
