The Great North American Solar Eclipse is upon us, and the alignments in the stars are in quite a show of force. Fortunately, there is some ease of energies for this one, but also some distinct challenges ahead as well. Let's dive deep into the rabbit hole...
Let's start off with the explanation of a solar eclipse in Astrology... it's a supercharged New Moon which begins a new cycle that, instead of the usual month-long cycle, it lasts for several months, perhaps longer. In fact, I think I was feeling the effects of this eclipse even before it was happening. That's how powerful a solar eclipse is astrologically. It's like a transitional gateway of sorts, very high powered, very high energy, and not something to be dismissed out of hand. Even if you don't buy into astrology, take a look at your life events around the time of previous eclipses, and see if there were any events that stand out to you.
As this Solar Eclipse is in the last part of 28, almost 29 Leo, anyone with significant points (like Ascendant/Descendant, or Midheaven/IC) or any planets in the Fixed signs from 23.5 degrees to the very end of Leo/Scorpio/Aquarius/Taurus, or the very beginning of the Mutable signs to 4 degrees Virgo/Sagittarius/Pisces/Gemini will feel it very strorngly. A degree or two outside this range may experience some muted effects, but still enough for a kick. Trines and sextiles to an Eclipse aren't as dynamic as the harder aspects, and I think aspects like the Quincunx have some impact as well, but again, not as strongly as the cross formations (Conjunction/Opposition/Squares).
Without further ado, however, let's get into the analysis of this particular eclipse chart.
To begin... the Solar Eclipse itself trines Uranus retrograde. For the next several months, we will see an influence of internal rebellion, revolution, and shakeups. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes we need to see what isn't working, and we need to rebel against it and cast it aside. The Trine aspect for this alignment makes this an easier time. Almost too easy, as it can lead to not making the internal changes we need to do. But on a distant note, the Solar Eclipse also trines Saturn Retrograde, which is stationing and getting ready to make its forward motion around August 25th. It's a 7 degree orb, however, so it's barely felt. Almost not even worth noting the trine line between Saturn and Uranus. However, the Solar Eclipse does barely trine Pholus as well, and that's close enough to consider with a trine to Uranus as well (less than 3 degree orb, so not strong, but a subtle influence). Some of our internal changes may come when we're under the influence of something, be it a drink at happy hour, a runner's high after running a few miles, maybe some kind of epiphany.
Update 08/21/2017 @ 13:21 PDT: We must also consider that this Solar Eclipse is in proximity to the fixed star Regulus, which greatly affects this eclipse as well. From Constellations of Words, regarding the Sun:
"With Sun: Power, authority, great influence over friends, honor and riches, but violence, trouble and ultimate disgrace and ruin, sickness, fevers, benefits seldom last. [Robson*, p.196.]"
...and the Moon?
"With Moon: Occult interests, powerful friends, danger from enemies and false friends, gain by speculation, public prominence, great power, honor, wealth, benefits seldom last, violence, trouble and sickness. Make women high spirited and independent. If at the same time the Sun is with the Dragon's Head in Gemini, or Jupiter is in the 10th house in trine to Mars and the Sun is with the Dragon's Head, great preferment even from the lowest sphere to high rank. [Robson*, p.196.]"
So we will be seeing some strong leadership and leader-oriented events over the next several months, and I can tell you that the saber-rattling we've been seeing is only just getting started. It's likely a prominent leader or three will also be ousted or step down over the next several months. Whether that happens to Trump specifically... I can only speculate. At the time I update this, we still await word on his announcement regarding Afghanistan.
Another thing to consider is the Solar Eclipse conjunct the North Node, which is no real surprise when we consider the Nodes and their placements during eclipses. This Eclipse North Node squares 407 Arachne in Scorpio, which to me indicates that, for the next several months (until the next eclipse cycle), we will need to be abundantly aware of what ensnares us, what binds us. We will need to use our inner strength to cut the binds that tie, and especially so at this time.
Jupiter sextile Saturn Retrograde during this time gives us a small boost in increasing our own luck through inner discipline. As both Jupiter and Saturn both Quincunx 666 Desdemona, creating a Yod pattern, the focus will be on slaying the inner demons... particularly inner demons that aim to keep us lazy and in a state of false satisfaction, as Desdemona sits in Taurus right now. 3412 Kafka opposite Desdemona pulls the bowstring, kiting this Yod, so we will need to be on the lookout for awkward or off-the-wall occurrences that drive us to killing the demon without. We have the strength, we just need to watch out for anything that trips us up.
Chiron retrograde quincunx the Solar Eclipse brings an awkward or off-kilter sense of inner wounding (or inner healing, as Chiron is the wounded healer), so while we may be striving to heal what has hurt us in the past, the lingering aches and burns are still going to fester and boil a bit. Maybe sting. Chrion retrograde semisextile Uranus retrograde seems to indicate to me that much of this inner burn and heal is going to be of our own making, as retrograde I'm feeling that it's internalized to many of us. Many inner hurts, inner pains, those are going to be what comes to the surface over the next several months, and that is what we must focus on healing.
Mercury is also retrograde during this Eclipse, so we are currently going through some of the technological and travel delays usually associated with that transit. Mercury retrograde conjuncts 99942 Apophis and 896 Sphinx, and opposes Nessus by about 2 degrees.... During the next several months, we must be very clear and aware that we aren't being decieved by destructive riddles, or led astray by those who would wish to obsess and abuse us. In fact, with Mercury being retrograde at this time, we may even be deceiving and lying to ourselves, paving the way for our downfall if we are not careful. But by seeing this in the chart at this juncture in time, we can avoid the worst of it. Just be mindful.
Pluto retrograde square 763 Cupido could bring some trouble when looking for love, as Cupido is more a lustful asteroid from where I'm looking. Pluto also opposes Venus at a wide orb, so any love relationships should be carefully considered during the next several months, especially if they were initiated during this time, as after the initial lustful stage, only those meant to be will endure beyond that honeymoon period. Now, if you're looking for somehing like tantric sex, then this can be a time of great transformation. Just remember that the phoenix must immolate itself to be reborn /grin.
Speaking of sexual transformations, Cupido does sextile 545 Messalina, both quincunx Vesta for a Yod pattern, and kited by 37117 Narcissus. Whatever sexual or romantic transformations occur during this time, one must be very aware of the other partner's intentions, as deep down in the core it may not be altruistic, and at the same time, there will be an air of destiny or something that seems sacred or blessed to begin with. But a lot of encounters initiated around the time of this eclipse will be primarily lustful, I feel. Had the involved asteroids been something like Aphrodite or Eros, then perhaps something more enduring, but not in this instance.
Mars trine Saturn retrograde brings a general ease and easier flow when it comes to achieveing some of our more self-improving goals during this several months period. It's a great time to initiate some growth, especially as we have Jupiter sextiling both Saturn and Mars, creating a Minor Grand Trine, so we should have a greater deal of good fortune in self-improvement projects for the next several months. Note that Jupiter does square Venus at this time as well, so there could be some losses stemming from a romantic encounter we may have desired, or perhaps a piece of artwork or that awesome poster doesn't quite match the rest of the decor in your room, as remote possibilities.
Venus currently is also conjunct 875 Nymphe and 149 Medusa. Romantic encounters initiated during this period could be a bit dicey as this seems to point to me some impetus on lustful action, with a risk of betrayal by women or female-minded individuals (or even those men more attuned to their feminine side, for another example.) Perhaps "possible betrayal by the feminine" makes more sense? I'm not sure how else to describe this with the English language adequately. This gets quite interesting though, as currently Venus, Nymphe and Medusa all sextile Sedna on Algol, and with Pholus quincunx both sides of this Yod, and 8813 Leviathan opposing Pholus, I would have to urge caution in any drunken encounters during this time period. While Medusa could be described as betrayal by the feminine, Sedna is betrayal by the Masculine, and Sedna moves slow! And it's parked its fat, transneptunian ass on Algol, a very harsh fixed star, so there's a great risk of men or more masculine figures in our lives possibly losing their heads at this time. Remember also that Arachne weakly opposes Sedna at this time too, so there's again a risk of ties that bind. If you're not wanting any more children at this time, I'd strongly urge using protection, as the alignments seem to indicate that there's an elevated chance of this happening globally during this time period.
I will leave off here, as the Eclipse is coming in my locality in the morning and I'd rather not miss it. Hopefully I'll be able to borrow some eclipse goggles to see this thing as I didn't get a chance to acquire any with all the goings on that have been happening with me. Be calm, be alert, and overall I think there's a great chance to grow during this particular Eclipse period. Be careful not to go overboard with that hot hunk or that cute playmate too! After all, the last chances for summer romance do seem to be coming now with Labor Day coming up and the Autumnal Equinox (in the Northern Hemisphere) a month away! Adios.
This posting is coming a little late and the Full Moon has already passed, so hopefully things are going good for you all. I do have a valid reason for this, as I recently ran into computer issues. After a failed attempt at cloning the old hard drive (this after upgrading to Windows 10 on an already-borked Windows 8.1 install), I was forced to do a clean install on a new hard drive. (99.99% of my previous data was salvageable so fret not, I didn't really lose anything! Reinstalling ALL of my software, however, is a real pain in the...). Anyways, enough about my computer misadventures. Let's get into this...
This Full Moon is part of a Water Grand Trine Kite! Sun in Cancer trines Mars in Scorpio and Chiron retrograde in Pisces, with the bowstring pulled by the moon itself!. This does not seem to happen very often, so this Full Moon has undoubtedly had a major effect on us all! Sun trine Mars leads us to a more productive, but potentially also lazy time (such as resting on laurels after a (perceived) victory assured), but the potential to get things done that need done is still there and likely already has been done (such as me reinstalling my laptop). Sun trine Chiron retrograde gives us a time period where we can do much internal healing after much struggle, and this hasn't been the easiest of lunar cycles. By now the Sun's rays may have revealed to you what it is that needed to be healed. Mars trine Chiron retrograde allows us to take advantage of the exposure and begin the work of working on that inner healing now. The moon opposing the sun at this point tells us that our emotions are at odds with our ego, or perhaps maternal/mother issues are at odds with our egos as well. Perhaps some of us didn't treat a woman in our life (mother, girlfriend, potential could-have-been girlfriend, etc.) fairly and now we see the error of our ways? Moon sextile both Mars and Chiron retrograde (thus making a Minor Grand Trine by itself) at this stage of the Full Moon will show that we have some emotional impact, but not debilitatingly so. Being opposed by Sun, well, our egos are still going to get in the way a little. The Moon is also conjunct 4179 Toutatis and 6583 Destinn, so we may be trying to protect our own emotional state at this time or perhaps motherly issues are being protected. Destinn being here isn't bad, as we have a good chance of succeeding in this time of healing.
Do be warned though, it won't be an easy road with Full Moon forming a T-square to Uranus. Uranus itself is apex this T-Square, so there's a good chance of a bit of rebellion against the healing and active energies of the Grand Trine. The Sun and Moon themselves also square 763 Cupido and 545 Messalina on the other side as well, though they themselves are out of orb of opposing Uranus. We can expect that issues relating to people charming others for the sake of promiscuity or other goods is not outside the realm of possibility.
Mercury conjunct Venus, both trine Saturn retrograde, shows an excellent potential of communications and travel benefiting us at this time. Venus in the conjunction shows that we should expect events and communications pertaining to romance and perhas some minor money or aesthetical gain to go favorably. Trine Saturn retrograde, we may see ourselves invoking a little more self-discipline to go out there and negotate some favorable gains. We need to make sure our expectations are realistic though, as this could blow up in our face if we get too carried away. This is represented by Saturn retrograde square Neptune retrograde and South Node. If we are not careful, we could get caught up in thoughts or daydreams (or nightmares, perhaps) of the past... this runs the danger of sabotaging this period of potential gain and healing, and thus would lead to more wounding if we don't escape it. Don't even think of doing anything underhanded or shady, as it will likely come out.
Jupiter is applying to an opposition to Chiron retrograde, which will continue to get stronger over the next few weeks. The caveat to this time period is that, while we have the potential for some good gains, especially with Pluto retrograde trine Jupiter and the North Node, we will have our work cut out for us due to the aforementioned Node-Saturn-Neptune T-Square.
Now, given that during the Full Moon period we have just seen Donald Trump become the official nominee at the Republican National Convention, this would be a good time to look at a particular asteroid T-Square. While there are no major bodies making major aspects to any of these particular asteroids from what I can tell, 26955 Lie in Gemini apexes 8690 Swindle in Virgo opposing 10961 Buysballot in Pisces. That event happening during that T-square is a little interesting, and I thought I would mention it, especially with that name... Buysballot. To be fair, we must also note that within a week or so of this T-square happening with the Full Moon, the Democratic National Convention will be held July 25-28th in Philadelphia, PA. So we can expect the controversies to continue. After all, both Hillary and Trump are not exactly the most-revered people in the Presidential contention arena right now, and yet both are frontrunners/nominees (Trump officially, and Hillary soon to follow it seems). As for the Melania speech plagiarism controversy... well, the Lie/Swindle/Buysballot T-square represents that too, I think.
Finally, I'm going to note the Fire Grand Trine with Uranus, Eris, and 4386 Lust in Aries, 1388 Aphrodite in Leo, and Ixion/Pholus in Sagittarius, with Aphrodite kited by 19 Fortuna in Aquarius. Really, the focus I would look at in this is the Aries point in this Grand Trine, as Uranus is the only major body in this. Uranus, the planet of rebellion, revolution, breaking the rules, and general chaos, conjunct Eris, the dwarf planet representing (to me) discord and chaos... well, I think that definitely sums up what the hell is happening lately, what with the presidential election, the Black Lives Matter protests over actual and perceived abuses by police, and the retaliatory attacks (and other attacks) on police officers. 4386 Lust there, well, we did have the revelation in the Bill Cosby story that he's now "completely blind and homebound" and life described as a "living hell." Hmm, but the people over the years that have apparently been victimized not having their lives turned into a living hell all this time? I dunno... (Yes, he has not been convicted in a court of law, yet his innocence is not looking very likely either from my personal standpoint. Perhaps I shouldn't throw stones quite yet). Maybe that Fortuna/Aphrodite opposition, and the uninvolved (by way of aspects) Pallas conjunct Nessus retrograde has something to say about this as well. Pallas strikes me as a stroke of justice for some reason in this instance, though it's likely his eyesight was failing for a while now and is only now being reported. Pallas is named for Pallas Athene (or Athena), born from the forehead of Zeus fully grown and ready to fight.
With Pallas conjunct Nessus retrograde, perhaps this is the time to defend ourselves against our own obsessions, or abuses of ourselves. There do seem to be other supporting healing aspects (espectially the Full Moon Grand Trine Kite involving Chiron), so we can make great progress here.
This is where I'm going to leave off. Again, this was late due to technical issues, and I'm starting to ramble now. Let's see where the rest of this lunar cycle takes us until the New Moon in August.
Another month, another New Moon. Grab your shovels, and plant some seeds, as I'm seeing quite a bit of... fertilizer. Hey, it makes plants grow, and plants give us good stuff. Just get ready to duck!
This New Moon is in a hell of a place, and in a good way. An earthy Grand Trine to Pluto retrograde and Jupiter retrograde, and arguably North Node as well, depending on how wide an orb you apply to the North Node aspect. Grand Trines are easier, almost too easy at times (depending on what's involved in natal charts. This is transit though). Let's consider this: Some people may just be coasting thinking that things are starting to wind down, while others will be idling and pondering their next moves. This could be a mistake, given the Neptune opposition to Jupiter retrograde, so we have a bit of a wide Kite here.
A Grand Trine Kite occurs when we have three planets or points trine one another in three different signs, and when one of those planets have an opposition to another body or point. The opposing planet is essentially pulling the bowstring and bringing a focus to the kited planet. In this case, Jupiter retrograde. And Jupiter is all but Station Direct right now, slowing down for it to regain forward momentum on May 9th. So Jupiter is going to have some pretty big focus right now being at a standstill. As far as the North Node... Neptune's too wide to consider for that with a 9 degree orb. So we'll ignore it here.
Jupiter is also featured in a T-Square to Neptune, apex at Saturn retrograde and to a much lesser degree, Mars retrograde. Saturn's still going backwards and is a bit of a downer right now, and Mars retrograde is still slowing down actions and smoldering. Engage in healthy releases as much as possible I say. Especially as we have Mars retrograde quincunx Venus/Apophis right now. Some unstable passions that we don't know what to do with, kinda hot, but kinda want to stand ground. Could wreck a good thing if not careful. Might go out with a whimper though, or not as bad as it could if it goes that way, given Mars trine Kaali, an amplifier.
Let's get into the asteroids though, as these are very interesting. New Moon conjunct asteroids Lie and Dudu... Let's be honest here, this cycle we are going to see a lot that is full of crap. New Moon quincunx Saturn retrograde along with those two asteroids tells me that people are going to get called out on their crap and not sure how to take it. Likely, we ourselves will be called out, maybe calling ourselves out on our own crap, like bad habits (such as me staying up so late and putting things off. Not a good thing as I'm out of a job as of the end of ... today! Yeah, that's kinda bumming me out a little but I'm sure I'll find something soon enough. Enough of the personal note though!)...
Pholus trine Dejanira/Hekate trine Lucifer/Swindle for an asteroid Fire Grand Trine... might see some resolutions or revelations come to light of certain scandals or news involving victims. I would not be surprised to see some developments in a few cases pending trial or where justice was already meted out, such as Bill Cosby (not much news on that trial lately), or Jared the former Subway spokeman (who isn't having such a great time in prison. Can't imagine why. Hmm). Ixion also trining Hekate/Dejanira... yeah, might see some bruised egos here soon.
Lucifer opposite Buysballot/Lamb and Lucifer quincunx Pinocchio suggests to me that in this cycle, we will see some who will be riding high on lies and false promises, though the opposition implies a possible pride before a fall, or the air being let out of a lead balloon. (Lucifer from what I have seen denotes pride more than anything else.
Pinocchio semisextile Buysballot/Lamb suggests further falsehoods to me leading to some successes on the backs of those who fall in line and march to the standard beat. In short, and not to beat a dead horse, the typical portrayal of Donald Trump's base. (I really need to chart Election Day and see how this is going to go with the candidates).
Pandora Opposite Narcissus, Apex New Moon/Lie/Dudu in a T-Square: Yes, a Pandora's Box is pretty much already opened at this point. And what's flying out of it has people talking, and yes, we are seeing a lot of ego being blown about. This month is going to be quite intense.
Kassandra conjunct South Node: Warnings from the past are being sounded, but I can guarantee you that they're going to be ignored, as Kassandra represents warnings given and no one listening until it's too late.
Lucifer/Swindle opposite Eros/Medusa, apex Vesta conjunct Fixed Star Algol: Not a good star for the asteroid of fighting for one's beliefs and the sacred flame to be on. Sextile Chiron, however, slightly mitigates this unfortunate influence. But probably not all that much. We can expect to see more sex scandals and probably another prominent player laid low by past indiscretions, and likely via betrayal by way of a woman or female figure. We also have Cupido conjunct Messalina, both retrograde and off-sign between Libra and Scorpio, so that minor influence is also in the mix, as well as Nymphe trine Aphrodite, both romance asteroids. Be above-board in your romantic relationships, and expect to see someone hoisted by their own petard with their pants down is what I'm seeing for this lunar cycle.
Political world example of the transits leading up to this New Moon: Donald Trump just effectively secured the Republican Party Nomination. You could argue he doesn't have to do as much there now. But his battle may just be beginning. It's apparent to the other parties now (counting the third parties as well as Democrats) that the one who was not expected to win the nomination just effectively won it. The Donald's basically representing the Grand Trine Kite, while Cruz/Kasich could best be described by the T-Square (and they just suspended their campaigns, so this kinda goes along with the Mars/Saturn retrogrades). And of course, the Hitler/Mussolini comparisons are flying harder now, and still the momentum is still going.
I'd love to analyze more of this New Moon, but honestly, I need sleep before my last day at work. (Just because it's my last day doesn't mean I don't have stuff to finish up!) So yeah there's going to be plenty of crap this month, but that crap could grow some good things down the road. Be very much aboveboard in your relationships, and you might weather the storm and grow a stronger bond (or perhaps a new one if it comes down to it). Anyways, I'm fading. Sleep time for this astrologer.
It's finally here. Mars Retrograde. Pluto Retrograde follows in less than 24 hours after this point. Don't expect a lot of forward momentum at this time. Nay, if you try to force things now, it's probably not going to go very well. Since Mars and Pluto are both going retrograde within one day of one another, I've opted to combine this series for both as there really isn't going to be much of a difference in placements overall for both retrograde stations.
To recap about retrogrades, the planets themselves are not going backwards in space. Instead, the orbits of Earth and the planets are at such a point that the planets that are retrograde appear to be moving in reverse from our perspective here on Earth.
Mars Retrograde begins it's backward motion on Antares, a fixed star in Sagittarius. This is going to be rather interesting, as Antares is a pretty incendiary star all on its own, and Mars is the planet of action, war, anger, and fire. Mars, when going forwards, things progress and advance, and initiating actions seems to go a lot smoother. Once it's retrograde, it's pause-and-reassess time. Sure, you can force things forward, and you may have situations where you can't wait. Make sure you know if it's that kind of situation, or if it's a situation that you can take some time to think about and plan things out better.
Regarding Mars conjunct Antares... From [url=http://www.constellationsofwords.com/stars/Antares.html]Constellations of Words:
With Mars: Detrimental habits powerfully affecting the life, quarrels with friends and relatives, fairly favorable for gain. If at the same time the Moon is with Aldebaran, danger of death by sword or hanging. [Robson*, p.138.]
Fortunately, moon is not with Aldebaran so we don't have to worry about that last part. Still, for this Mars Retrograde cycle, we can expect more arguments and incidents, some stemming from people trying to force things through, and others just because people are more argumentative.
We do have some good news though... We have an Earth Grand Trine with Pluto in Capricorn trine Mercury/Vesta in Taurus trine Jupiter Retrograde in Virgo. This should go a long way in smoothing over some communications with others (though get things in writing, as Mecury itself is in it's Pre-Retrograde Shadow Period right now)... And the trine to Jupiter retrograde will allow us to take some things to heart and apply what we learn to ourselves. We'll be able to somewhat go forward with this before too long as Jupiter turns direct next month, though Mars will be retrograde until June 29th.
Saturn is also retrograde right now, and will be retrograde for the entire Mars Retrograde cycle. At the station for Mars, it trines Venus and to a lesser degree Uranus. We should have a little more stability with our relationships to others and will be looking inwards regarding our role in said relationships, and what we can do differently. Saturn squares Jupiter, so we will have conflict within ourselves regarding our relations wtih others, in romance and jobs. After all, Venus is Quincunx Jupiter at this point.
Truth be told, we do have a Fire Grand Trine between Saturn Retrograde in Sagittarius trine Venus in Aries trine 55 Pandora in Leo. Our looking inwards regarding these relationships is going to unlock some uncomfortable truths, most likely, and this will be like Pandora opening that wonderful box that unleashed all sorts of fun stuff into the world. But there was still hope in the box when all was said in done, so whatever you find out, don't despair too much. Take stock and take steps to rectify what you find. If all you find is good things, then awesome! Keep that stuff up.
Asteroid-wise, we have a rather nasty trio making a conjunction. 37117 Narcissus, 433 Eros, and 149 Medusa are all conjunct in Aquarius. Now Eros itself isn't bad, it's love. Romantic love, to be specific. The problem is with Narcissus, which of course portrays narcissism, and we have Medusa which in my experience has represented betrayal by or involving women. Ladies and gentlemen, if you've got any planets in hard aspect to 16-17 Aquarius or conjunct around there, do be wary of self-centered suitors looking to bleed you dry. Now, these do make a Minor Grand Trine to Saturn and Venus, however, the orb to Venus makes this weak, and Medusa really only factors due to the conjunction to Narcissus and Eros which are within 2 degrees orb of sextiling Venus. So there's some possible mitigation here as Saturn in the back of your head might be telling you "Hang on, this might be too good to be true", and perhaps Venus's influence smooths things over too... or makes it easier to fall head over heels in love with someone who isn't all that great for you.
100 Hekate and 157 Dejanira square Pluto isn't very nice. We could see more revelations of victims of ritualistic abuse or other abuses come to light. Do be careful.
Ceres conjunct 4386 Lust might be something to spice up the homestead's love life. Or maybe you see a proposal come at this time. However, do remember that with all of this retrograde action going on, you may want to hold off on this. Rather, strengthen the bonds you have now and think things through before going full matrimony-mode.
In part 2, I will further examine some asteroids, and give further focus to Pluto.
